#123: American Vintage Brand Smoky Chipotle, Lime and Beer Crackers/biscuits: You've probably never had a cracker like this before...

9/2/2013

Picture
Several weeks back, one of our taste panel members was pleased to receive a call from Mary-Lynn Mondich, the chef/owner of American Vintage Wine and Beer Crackers/biscuits in New York City, NY.

Mary-Lynn responded to an inquiry made by the brandnewfoods.com taste panel of the Specialty Food Association for new and interesting products.

As a result of our inquiry and strong positive feedback from the taste panel, our next item is American Vintage Smoky Chipotle, Lime and Beer crackers (Hot, Hot, Hot).

Other flavors of American Vintage Wine and Beer Crackers/biscuits include Red Wine and Black Pepper, White Wine, Shallot & Cayenne, Chianti, Oregano, Crushed Red Pepper, Pizza & Beer, Smoky Chipotle, Lime and Beer (Mild), and Smoky Chipotle, Lime and Beer (Hot, Hot, Hot).

What we liked:
Taste panel comments included "I love the rustic texture and taste of these crackers.", "These have a fair amount of heat that sneaks up on you.", "I love the thick handmade nature of these crackers - definitely gourmet or specialty.", "What a neat idea for cracker - I've never had handmade crackers before other than in a restaurant.", "These would be excellent with cheddar cheese and soup, chili, snacks, and more."

About:
American Vintage founder, Mary Lynn Mondich, has been passionate about food for years.  In fact, for several years, Mary-Lynn invented and tested recipes for TV shows, newspapers and magazines such as McCalls, Ladies Home Journal, and Food and Wine Magazine.  During this time, Mary Lynn, had been inspired to create product that had been missing in the marketplace and that could still be popular.  She found what she was looking for in a family recipe that everyone loved, and Mary-Lynn further refined the flavor using the palates of friends and co-workers.

After introducing the product (in a zip-lock bag) to two friends, both contributed money for the start-up business. In 1990, American Vintage began production of their handmade artisan crackers. In 1999, two additional flavors were introduced. As of 2013, American Vintage produces six flavors of gourmet crackers (sometimes called "biscuits").
