Ravioli is plural for "raviolo", a traditional Italian filled pasta sealed between two thin layers of egg pasta dough and served in broth or with pasta sauce.
The term "carbonara" is derived from the word "carbonaro", which is Italian for "charcoal burner". Some believe it was first made as a hearty meal for Italian charcoal workers.
