Three generations of pride and effort began when John Kinder opened his first meat market in San Pablo, CA, in 1946, which later moved to Concord, CA, in 1985. At the time, it was the only place in town to get a ball tip steak sandwich. Kinder's now has 15 family-owned/franchise locations in Northern California and Nevada and is preparing for huge growth in their lines of BBQ sauces, marinades, and more in retail markets across the country.

Currently, they make 5 different award-winning BBQ sauces, but our taste panel agreed that the BBQ Mustard Sauce was the winner. This sauce is perfect when paired with Kinder's smoked sausages, but other suggestions include use on deli sandwiches and burgers.

What we liked:
Comments from our taste panel included "love the vinegar-y aftertaste", "reminiscent of tangy North Carolina BBQ sauce", "sweet and smoky", "makes my mouth water", "nice, spicy kick", "also good on chicken and pulled pork", and "addicted to this sauce".

#18: Vernors Diet Ginger Soda: one sweet beverage...

8/1/2012

Picture
Our latest brand new food is actually a beverage. Vernors Ginger Soda was invented by pharmacist James Vernor in 1866 in Detroit, MI. Legend has it that before being called off to war, Vernor combined several tasty and unique ingredients in a barrel to age. When Vernor returned home, he was amazed to discover the delicious product that resulted.

The Vernor family originally sold the company in 1966. The brand is now part of the Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group.

"Vernor's 1-calorie",  introduced in 1962, later became Diet Vernors.

What we liked:
Vernors Diet Ginger Soda is highly carbonated, has a light, golden caramel color, and a smooth, rich taste. Comments from our taste panel included "refreshing", "sharp ginger flavor but not overpowering", "fizzy w/creamy aftertaste", "holiday tradition that I'd drink all year", and "I'd go out of my way to find this ginger ale".
